Bioinspired Materials

From Fundamentals to Applications

International conference on bioinspired materials
Aug. 3-8, 2025
in Emmetten, Switzerland.
Nature produces a wide range of materials with fascinating properties that are often taken as a source of inspiration to produce new, man-made materials with superior properties. This international conference will focus on the fabrication and characterization of materials made by nature and feature examples that demonstrate how we can learn from nature to build bio-inspired materials. The conference aims to provide a venue for bringing together researchers that characterize natural materials, researchers that investigate mechanisms by which such materials are produced, and researchers that take cues from nature to fabricate new biomimetic and bioinspired materials. The conference will feature multiple focus session on different topics, which will be announced here in due course.

The 2025 edition of the Bioinspired Materials conference will be opened on Sunday (August 3rd) by a plenary talk given by:
Jennifer Lewis (Harvard University, USA)
and contributions from the following invited speakers are confirmed:
Takuzo Aida (The University of Tokyo, Japan)
Eric Appel (Stanford University, USA)
Eva Blasco (University of Heidelberg, Germany)
Jason Burdick (University of Colorado Boulder, USA)
Aránzazu del Campo (INM-Leibniz Institute for New Materials, Germany)
Maria Helena Godinho (Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, Portugal)
Zhibin Guan (University of California, Irvine, USA)
Tuomas Knowles (University of Cambridge, UK)
Benjamin Palmer (Ben-Gurion University, Israel)
Tatiana Segura (Duke University, USA)
Silvia Vignolini (Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, Germany)

Next to the plenary talk, the program will feature lectures by a variety of invited speakers from different scientific disciplines. The list of invited speakers will be posted here soon. The scientific program will be complemented by presentations by junior researchers, poster sessions and, most importantly, plenty of time between sessions and in the afternoons for interactions and inter-disciplinary discussions. All conference participants are strongly encouraged to stay for the whole duration of the conference.
